PAUS. etiquette

Do not be alarmed by the long list of 'rules' below, but you may not have been somewhere like PAUS. before. We are not a Spa. 

To make your visit as comfortable as possible, take a moment to read the below.

BATHING SPACE

To maintain good hygiene and for your health and the comfort of your fellow bathers,
please respect and follow our Bathing Etiquette:

• The Bathing Space is for over 18s only, however, children over 12 will be allowed if accompanied by a group of adults. Please let us know in advance if you are planning to bring anyone under 18. Please bring your ID if you are lucky enough to look 25 or younger.​

• Children are allowed in all other areas of PAUS. including The Meadows.

• Sharp objects and glass are not permitted in the bathing area.

• For hygiene reasons, food is not allowed in the bathing area. This also applies to bitesize snacks, nuts, fruit etc.  

• Please do not bring your own soft drinks and/ or alcohol to PAUS. Only food and drinks purchased at PAUS are allowed to be consumed on site. We reserve the right to confiscate any such products and may ask you to leave the premises without the possibility of rescheduling or a refund. 

• We advise against eating a heavy meal before the use of the bathing facilities.

• A hot, soapy shower (provided) must be taken before entering the hot tubs/saunas.

• Wearing a bathing costume is required. Nudity, daywear or underwear is not allowed in the hot tubs or saunas. 

• Do not wear cosmetic products such as body lotions, creams and heavy make-up in the hot tub. These products compromise the chemical treatment in the water which can have an impact on your safety.

• Sun protective creams should be applied no less than one hour before using the hot tubs. Therefore, we ask that you please apply suncream at home. This will also ensure that the protective properties will be more effective.
  For more details about how to protect yourself against the sun and what we are doing to increase your safety, please read below.

• Please avoid wearing metal jewellery and watches while using the bathing facilities. Metal can react to the water treatment in the hot tubs and get very hot in the sauna. We advise you to keep valuable items at home or in the lockers provided. We are sorry but we do not accept responsibility for lost or damaged items.

• Before and during the visit please drink plenty of water (provided).

• We advise against submerging your head in the water.

• Regularly alternate the heat of the hot tubs and saunas with cold air, cold shower and cold plunge pools.  Always allow your body to cool down fully before returning to the hot space.

• Do not use the bathing facilities if you have sensitive skin; open sores or wounds; or have had the flu or stomach problems in the last 7 days.

• Contact your GP before using the bathing facilities if you are pregnant, receiving medical treatment, are taking medications or have a long term illness.

VISITING PAUS. ON SUNNY DAYS

All cosmetic products have a negative effect on the water treatment used to keep the water safe.

They degrade the water quality in the hot tubs which can compromise your safety. This doesn’t mean that you should not protect yourself against the sun by following these simple steps:  

​

• Apply waterproof sunscreen no less than one hour prior to using the bathing facilities; at home before arrival to PAUS or while on site if eating in the Bistro/walking in the Meadows before your session. This will allow enough time for the product to absorb, which is crucial for its protective properties to work and therefore for your own safety.

• Only apply on the body parts which will stay outside of the water: face, ears, neck and shoulders. 

• If you fail to apply sun cream one hour before entering the hot tubs and you feel it is necessary, please apply a moderate amount to the exposed areas only. Wash your hands thoroughly afterwards to eliminate the amount of product transferred to the hot tub. Please do note that the protective properties of the cream do not work immediately and it is therefore highly recommended to apply it well before your plunge.

• We also suggest you wear a hat with a wide brim. If you don't have one, you can purchase one from us. Please speak with our reception team. 

• For extra protection, use the protective umbrellas provided. 

• Do not submerge your head while bathing.

• There is also a shade pergola with sun-loungers provided.

MEADOWS

​

• Due to the outdoor nature of the site, conditions can vary underfoot

• Surfaces may be uneven and there is a risk of trips or falls

• Walk slowly, carefully and fully concentrated on the surfaces

• When walking barefoot we cannot guarantee that a naughty thistle won't be waiting for your feet, particularly in the Spinney area

• We have a lot of rabbits as tenants so please watch out for holes, burrows and homes

• No picnics or camping are allowed unless prior arrangement with management

FOOD & BEVERAGES

​

Only food and drinks purchased at PAUS are allowed to be consumed on the premises including in the Meadows. 

We reserve the right to request you to leave the premises if you are under the influence of alcohol or any other substances; if your behaviour is disruptive or disrespectful towards other guests and our staff.

No refunds will be issued in such cases.
